Agriculture is one of Tunisia’s most important economic sectors and a major employer of the working-age population. Many financial institutions therefore engage in agricultural lending. However, unlike trade, services, or manufacturing, agriculture has distinct dynamics and risks that require tailored approaches.
The course “Specificities of Agricultural Lending” is designed to introduce participants to the fundamental features of the agricultural sector and the key considerations for credit officers working with individual farmers and small agricultural enterprises.
This course is intended for specialists and middle managers at financial institutions who serve agricultural clients and already possess a basic understanding of micro and small businesses. If you are new to this area, we recommend starting with the course “Basics of Microcredit.”
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Understand the key characteristics of Tunisia’s agricultural sector.
- Identify the specific features of crop production and livestock farming relevant to agri-food clients.
- Apply practical approaches to analyzing farmers and small agricultural enterprises.
- Conduct sector-appropriate cross-checks during client assessments.
- Recognize the main accounting features of agricultural businesses.
- Use established methods for compiling financial statements.
- Assess the principal risks faced by agricultural producers.
- Implement effective strategies to optimize and mitigate risk in agricultural lending.
The course consists of 7 lessons grouped into 3 sections.
Each lesson is designed to last 45 minutes or less.
At the end of the course, you will be asked to take a final test. Based on the results of this test, a certificate of completion will be generated.
